GIG Student Art Award

The Galleries in the Gardens Student Art Award is one of GIG's major community initiatives.  It fosters participation in art, and encourages and rewards excellence.

Launched in late 2019, the inaugural program was extended to the HSC visual arts students from Bulahdelah Central School, our local high school.

Battling not only the pressure of final year studies but also work-arounds due to social distancing and other COVID-related requirements, the students still managed to produce some very impressive entries!

Our inaugural winner was Jake Billinghurst for his amazing, nearly 3m tall 'Thanks Dad' artwork which he completed with just three pencils! (see pic below)

Natasha Veith and Annabella Whyman received High Commendations and Harrison Hughes attracted a Certificate of Merit for his work.

Entries were showcased in a special exhibition at The Gallery, attracting a lot of visitors and many compliments to the student artists.

The Award gained widespread media attention - and you can see all entries, and hear what some of the students had to say, on the TV news stories posted to GIG's Facebook on 7/10/2020.

We look forward to Galleries in the Gardens Student Art Award 2021!
